Boeing Selects The Whitlock Group to Complete the Integration of state-of-the-art Audiovisual Systems for multiple Network Operations Centers January 13, 2006 Boeing has always been at the forefront of technology. But, recently, the company has determined that they are immersed in data and surrounded by standalone information systems. They needed a way for their employees and systems to stay connected and collaborate between platforms, systems, and devices, such as satellites, aircraft, or PDAs. So, they created a network centric operations environment where critical information can be shared between all sensors and effectors, such as fighter aircraft, ground vehicles, ships, satellites, reconnaissance platforms, and even the soldier on the ground, to create an unprecedented situational awareness of the battlespace. The Whitlock Group was chosen to complete a multitude of audiovisual installations for several Network Centric Operations Center (NCOC) facilities in The Boeing Company’s Headquarters in St. Louis. The Boeing NCOC5 is a sophisticated presentation room with a two-high-by-three-wide array of Clarity 67” Lion cubes that have a native resolution of UXGA, 1600x1200. The room also has tiered millwork seating for 15 and an attached operator’s room. The display wall controller for the Lion cubes is comprised of six RGB Spectrum QuadView Plus controllers in conjunction with the Clarity Big Picture modules, with overall control provided by a remarkable custom Crestron control program. This unique configuration, designed by The Whitlock Group, allows for numerous native input signals to all be displayed at their native resolution and native refresh rate, with everything occurring in real time with no buffer or lag. Boeing, for example, may create and save custom configurations to the Crestron touchpanel in real time, and show all the different views that a test pilot in the dome flight simulator is seeing. Visitors and the presenter can then communicate to the test pilot and hear the test pilot’s response, thanks to a sophisticated Peavey NION Digital Signal Processor. All video and audio may be recorded in high resolution. Because of our work on NCOC5, The Whitlock Group was asked to retrofit another Network Centric Operations Center, NCOC3, with Peavey NION equipment and also reprogram the Crestron system. Based on our performance with the NCOC5 and NCOC3 projects, The Whitlock Group was also recently awarded the contract to complete audiovisual installations for two additional Boeing projects, another Network Centric Operations Center called NCOC2 and a Viewing Portal.
