The Escambia County Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Florida is used as a central command station to manage and respond to major events should a disaster, such as a hurricane, strike the area. Many life safety and security agencies must collaborate from this command and control center, including fire, police EMS, and various public services.
Historically, information was displayed on three overhead projectors, a pull-down screen and four cable TV monitors. This set up did not work well for the Escambia EOC, as officials were limited in the number of sources and method of displaying data and there was no centralized method of control.
The Whitlock Group was chosen to integrate an entirely new media system to enhance the accessibility and distribution of communications in and out of the EOC. The new system consists of nine rear-projection Christie projectors and nine 67” Large Screen Display projection screens to form a 3x3 video wall configuration with a Christie processor, allowing the display of multiple images on each of the nine screens or one large image stretched across all the screens for enhanced viewing. The completed system also contains 12 Panasonic plasmas mounted around the room, two additional Christie projectors strategically hung from the ceiling, a Sennheiser conferencing system, Sony BRC cameras, Extron scalers and scan converters, QSC Amps, Renkus Heinz speakers, Middle Atlantic consoles, KSI presentation podiums and a Crestron Control System to manage all of the media throughout the integrated system.
The completed system enables officials to view many more sources of information, control the sources and disseminate more information to the various agencies faster and easier, which is imperative for any Emergency Operations Center. The room is completely secured and protected similarly to a bomb shelter to ensure systems protection in any type of disaster situation.
