Sharing Sermons with Effective Technologies

Challenge:

Grove Avenue Baptist Church, based in Richmond, Virginia, is a well-known, well-attended church in central VA, which offers outreach programs across Virginia and around the world. The church is known for its innovative, impactful practices, including its live broadcast of the Sunday morning worship service, the first of its kind in the Southern Baptist Convention of Churches. Grove Avenue Baptist sought out an audiovisual expert to assist with the design and integration of technologies for its sanctuary, broadcasting and master control systems to support its outreach goals. They chose Whitlock to deliver.

Solution:

Whitlock served as a full audiovisual consultant for Grove Avenue Baptist, handling the procurement and implementation of audiovisual and control components throughout the church. In the Sanctuary, the Whitlock team integrated audio and video projection systems, along with a separate sound mixing and recording area for broadcasting sermons for the Victory Hour program. A full-service media center was created, which included a broadcast sound room, a terminal area and central hub area for the AV, phone and computer networks management as well as a master control room for live multi-camera production. These systems enable Grove Avenue Baptist to easily uplink their sermons for their live cable distribution programming, The Victory Hour.

The master control room also records programs or presentations for distribution via other non-live formats, and allows for all video editing, mastering and archiving to be done on site. The church staff can also distribute a composite video signal to the various assembly areas as well as the sanctuary.
