When Mineral Baptist Church in rural Mineral, Virginia relocated after 98 years, it was time for a major upgrade of its audio-visual system. They charged The Whitlock Group (TWG) with the opportunity to outfit the sanctuary with a state-of-the-art audio-visual system that was effective, user-friendly and, most importantly, did not compromise the aesthetics of the sanctuary. The Whitlock Group responded with an integrated presentation system that addressed and fulfilled all of Mineral Baptist Church's needs.
First The Whitlock Group's addressed the reverberation problem that is typical of a large room with a vaulted ceiling. TWG engineers installed unobtrusive Helmholtz resonators at strategic points along the side walls that are hardly noticeable. Five had-held microphones that created phase distortion were replaced with one stereo pair of Audio-Technica 853 RW mics suspended from the ceiling. The Whitlock Group installed an unusual speaker configuration that ensures both voice intelligibility and musical sound reproduction throughout the sanctuary. The audio system includes two in-wall Electro-Voice T251 speakers, two Electro-Voice S-181 subwoofers, an array of mono Electro-Voice EVI-12, an Electro-Voice SX-300 monitor and a Mackie CR 1604 16 channel mixing console all strategically placed for aesthetics.
The video component was also engineered to preserve the aesthetics of the sanctuary. Instead of opting to use traditional projection screens, The Whitlock Group installed a nearly invisible wallpaper-like projection surface at the front of the room. RJF International Corp's Walltalker RVA-50 delivers a clear image and blends in with the wall remarkably when not in use. TWG also installed two Proxima Pro AV 9320 LCD projectors featuring XGA resolution and 3,000 ANSI lumens outfitted with Proxima LENS-002 long throw lenses inside either rear wall of the sanctuary.
On top of delivering a high-performance audio-visual system, The Whitlock Group was sensitive to the importance of a user-friendly interface and tied everything neatly together with a Crestron touch screen controller linked with an Extron audio-video switcher. Even an inexperienced user can control every aspect of the church's new presentation system with a few touches of the screen.
The Whitlock Group worked rigorously with Mineral Baptist Church to deliver a completely integrated audio-visual system that enhances the experience of each member of the congregation.
