Digital Décor: Nix Patterson & Roach

Challenge

Nix, Patterson & Roach L.L.P. (NPR) is one of the premier plaintiffs’ law firms in the U.S. specializing in intellectual property litigation. NPR approached Whitlock to design, build and staff a modern, digitally interactive office space that would reflect their focus on emerging technologies, share information in an engaging format and improve collaboration with employees and clients from any location around the world.

Solution & Technology Highlights

Command Information Center (CIC)

Whitlock designed and installed a Command Information Center utilizing the latest in telepresence technologies to enable real-time two-way communications via deposition text, video and audio from any secure location worldwide. This solution involved a complex rear projection display system, which can display, control, and record up to eight separate depositions simultaneously. Beyond the ability to conduct multiple depositions at the same time, NPR can also compare and contrast and direct these depositions in real time. NPR has a patent pending on this unique business process. All depositions are recorded and edited in an editing suite adjacent to the main CIC room, staffed by  Whitlock managed services personnel.

Lobby

Whitlock designed the lighting, audiovisual systems and the control of the futuristic, eye-catching lobby at NPR, which features a large video globe, a video wall, controllable LED lighting, and a video artwork illusion known as a “Megasphere”. The video globe is 4’ in diameter, and uses a special combination of warping software, a lens for spherical projection with a Barco R12 projector in a custom sound enclosure.  The Megasphere is video art: an NEC projector in a room of mirrored surfaces that are precisely configured to create the illusion of a 250’ diameter sphere. The illusion is further heightened by projecting amorphous, abstract video Rorschach images that heighten the illusion of a 250’ sphere. Positioned behind the receptionist is a Planar/Jupiter HD video wall broadcasting news networks, as well as relevant information to guests.  Whitlock designed, programmed and controls the dramatic LED lighting in the space.

Conference Room

The conference room installed by Whitlock features a 100” Blue Ocean wide-aspect ratio rear-projection screen that utilizes a Barco iCon 1920x1080 projector with a built-in image processor. This configuration gives Nix Patterson the ability to display up to eight laptop sources through their local network. Laptop images, audio and Cisco/Tandberg HD videoconferencing is enhanced with a Glowpoint IP network, as well as pop-up embedded Clock-Audio microphones for each participant. If a user wishes to share a paper document with the far-end participants, a Vaddio ceiling-mounted document camera captures images placed on a specific area of the conference table. A Smart Sympodium annotation tablet allows participants to draw on computer images, store and email these annotated graphics. A Crestron control system gives one simple remote control interface for the entire system.
