Founded in 1935, Norfolk State University's mission is to provide opportunities for obtaining a quality education through the acquisition of knowledge, understanding and skills. The University is proud to be one of the largest predominantly black institutions in the nation and is committed to pursuing its vital role of serving the people of the Hampton Roads area of the Commonwealth of Virginia. Working closely with the staff at the NSU, The Whitlock Group created a state-of-the-art satellite uplink. This uplink is a vital part of the Virginia educational satellite network and is used to facilitate the college's distance learning program The Whitlock Group was responsible for all phases of the project: consulting, design, engineering, facilities planning, training, project management and professional installation of all equipment. The customer utilized equipment from a variety of manufacturers, including: Andrew Corporation, VideoTek, Tektronix, Leitch, Inc., Panasonic Broadcast and Winsted Corporation.
