The Whitlock Group recently completed the installation of audiovisual and video components for the multi-functional Crowne Center at Pensacola Christian College (PCC) in Pensacola, Florida.
The 6,200-seat Crown Center was designed and built to serve the many needs of PCC's thriving academic community. The most significant goal for the facility was to design a space that would equally accommodate a broad range of events, including worship services, lectures, meetings, concerts, theatrical production, graduation and formal ceremonies and other large-group forums.
The Whitlock Group was contracted to procure and integrate all of the multimedia components that combine presentation needs with television production and theatrical/performance design. Therefore, The Whitlock Group installed two JVC DILA 5000C projectors, eight Hitachi SK-555 cameras, DVC Pro 50 recorders and Ross Synergy switchers to outfit The Crowne Center with two completed digital production suites - one for television broadcasting and one for image magnification in the auditorium. The JVC video projectors provide digital and analog capabilities and function well in high-ambient light environments. On-site video production and editing as well as live-television broadcasting and satellite simulcast capabilities give PCC the option of hosting high-profile international events.
The biggest challenge in the project was how to design the system so the projected images could be seen by the entire 6,200-seat congregation. The two JVC projectors, therefore, were double-stacked for added brightness and redundancy. Overall, the integration of AV technology has helped this organization because it allows for both the broadcast of the Sunday services and the ability to put additional information into the service, including PowerPoint slides/overheads and other visual images.
This project was the feature story for the May/June 2002 issue of Church Production magazine. For a copy of the complete article, email us at information@whitlock.com.
