Located at the prestigious South Texas College of Law, the T. Gerald Treece Courtroom was designed to give students a taste of what the real world will bring once they are full-fledged attorneys. Fashioned as a traditional courtroom, but equipped with state-of-the-art technology, the space is used to present mock trials, state advocacy competitions and various awards ceremonies, and teach civil and criminal trial courses as well as classes on the legal process in general. In addition, the space is used by outside law firms and courts to conduct actual hearings.
The Whitlock Group completed the integration of the audiovisual and control systems for the judge’s box, witness stand and court reporter, counsel tables and lectern, jury boxes, gallery seating area and master control room. Equipment in the installation included Crestron control systems, Barco projectors, Draper screens, Sony CCD cameras, Extron interfacing, Broad Data fiber optics, Meyer UPM loudspeakers and BSS Soundweb audio processing. The master control room houses the behind-the-scenes interfacing and production equipment used to record events and proceedings occurring in the court room space.
The custom programmed Crestron control systems manage all of the audiovisual components used throughout the facility. Pre-sets on the touchpanels allow multiple operations to occur with only one button press, as with the recessed video cameras that can be extended outwards with a motorized door and pan-and-tilt assembly to a pre-set position via the control panel. When recessed, the video cameras are positioned behind the motorized doors that are concealed with an acoustical panel so they look like the rest of the wall. When exposed, the cameras can record the proceedings inside the Courtroom.
The Whitlock Group succeeded in installing a user-friendly, high-function media system for this technology-savvy Law School. As well, The Whitlock Group is continuing to support this high-tech facility with a maintenance agreement to ensure all systems function to specification at all times.
