The Whitlock Group has completed numerous projects for Verizon Business (formerly MCI) over the years, but most recently provided the integration of audiovisual components for Verizon Business’ Network Operations and Briefing Centers in Ashburn, Virginia and Cary, North Carolina.
The Network Operations Center project involved the installation of (24) Mitsubishi 40” LCD monitors. This center operates under a Crestron control system, and a 24 x 24 matrix switcher routes RGB inputs and outputs. All RGB video feeds use twisted pair cabling and Extron transmitters and receivers. The room also contains a map table consisting of a 40” LCD monitor with a SMART overlay (touch screen), mounted at a 30-degree angle for walk-up use. The map table allows network engineers to view and edit network infrastructure maps digitally instead of storing paper documents.
At the Ashburn, VA Briefing Center, The Whitlock Group provided the integration audiovisual components for both the reception area and Customer Briefing Center. The reception area contains three NEC projectors and Silicon Optix processors to display 3 images side-by-side on a giant curved projection screen. The briefing center features multiple kiosk and information stations featuring 23” – 40” LCD displays, multiple training and meeting rooms, and a custom designed, 16:9 aspect, 100” diagonal rear projection touchscreen that shows an interactive map of the MCI global network. The VA and NC Executive Briefing Conference Rooms are almost identical in that they each contain dual screen rear-projection systems. Two Christie LX-37 projectors display two separate images side by side, or one projector can display on the center of the 5’ x 14’ rear screen. These rooms are controlled by a Crestron system and utilize Extron switching and interfacing.
The Whitlock Group was also privileged to receive a Laureate award from the Smithsonian Institute for an MCI Network Operations Center project completed in 2000. The award program recognized the leading pioneers in the “Information technology revolution”.
