News Our Favorite Business Trends from Microsoft Ignite 2016

Ignite is Microsoft's biggest global technology event. Held in Atlanta this year, it was possibly the biggest in Microsoft’s history, attracting over 40,000 attendees. In addition to all of the technology announcements, here are the top 3 business trends that we think were the most important to businesses today.

Our Favorite Business Trends from Microsoft Ignite 20161. Transformation 3.0 – If there is one thing that is constant in life, it’s change. Transformation 3.0 is the digital transformation that is sweeping every industry. At Whitlock, we’ve been working with our customers for several years as the role of IT, facilities, audio/visual teams, and business leaders are converging, and cloud and mobile technologies are exploding. In fact, we’ve gone beyond just cloud and mobile to the trend today where immersive interactive experiences at the work place are becoming essential. Employees and customers simply expect more from collaboration technology than you provide. That technology, in turn, is changing the way we interact with one another. On the opening day at Microsoft Ignite, Microsoft CEO, Satya Nadella said,”We’ve used technology very successfully to democratize both creation, distribution, and access of information. And now we need to turn technology to democratize creation and access to intelligence.” In our Whitlock booth at Ignite, we’re hearing from attendees that intelligent collaboration devices like the Microsoft Surface Hub are at the heart of this transformation. They are generating the most excitement about what is now possible with group collaboration.

Our Favorite Business Trends from Microsoft Ignite 20162. Employee Engagement = Mission Critical – Your investments now in digital innovation and your work environment will impact your ability to attract and keep the best talent to drive tomorrow’s businesses. You need to create a strategy for communications and collaboration that works for 1) both on-site and remote teams, 2) scheduled and unscheduled meetings, and 3) your specific work place design, hardware/devices, and software. At Microsoft Ignite this week, we talked with customers about the importance of evaluating where they are in their employee engagement. We also showcased our Microsoft Surface Hub and Skype for Business services, and even the HoloLens, which support you in that journey.

Our Favorite Business Trends from Microsoft Ignite 20163. Open Environments and IoT – Ignite echoed what many thought leaders have been saying for a long time – that digital transformation is about creating new business models and better customer experiences. Think about how you can create more Open Environments, both in your physical office space and in your digital collaboration platforms. This will impact not only your internal work force productivity, but how you respond and add more value to customers. Trends like the Internet of Things (IoT) mean that more data and insight from physical devices will be available, so you need to be planning now for how you will use these new sources of data and how you will share it with key stakeholders for strategy and go forward plans.

We have been here so many times before; trying to predict what’s going to happen in the new year and then conveniently forgetting about the misplaced predictions we made this time last year.
