John Whitlock


John Whitlock is the Chairman and Founder of Whitlock, and he provides strategic guidance on the company, its values and founding principles. John is known in Richmond, VA for having developed some of the city’s best known tech businesses, including Richmond.com, Whitlock eBusiness, Ironworks (now part of ICF International) and our company, which was originally called Audio Fidelity Communications Corporation. Outside of Whitlock, John is very active in the community, serving on the board for the Science Museum of VA and the Retail Merchants Association. He has previous tenure with the Virginia 529 College Savings Plan, Bank of Richmond, Better Business Bureau, Virginia Performing Arts Foundation and the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce. His accolades include the Virginia Master Entrepreneur of the Year Award by Ernst & Young, the Inc. 500 List, the Bulldog 100 List, Richmond Venture Forum’s Top 25 Entrepreneurs List and the Systems Contractor News Hall of Fame. John is also a passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF).

Doug Hall

Chief Executive Officer

Doug has 30 years of experience in leadership and global business management, 20 of which have been focused on AV and video collaboration at Whitlock. He joined the company in 1995, and has served as the company’s COO, CFO and now CEO for the past decade. Responsible for the overall business health and growth of Whitlock, Doug is involved in strategy, operations, sales and general oversight of the company culture and vision. Under his leadership, Whitlock has maintained a solid financial position and reputation. Before joining Whitlock, Doug was a senior manager in the entrepreneurial services group at Ernst & Young.

Roger Patrick

Chief Operating Officer

Roger has more than 25 years of experience in the audiovisual and video collaboration industries in management, finance and executive leadership roles. Overseeing Whitlock’s operations, business analysis and services delivery, Roger is responsible for maximizing the customer experience, profitably, across the business. His role includes the development and evaluation of evolving business models and markets, while ensuring consistent adoption and deployment of standards nationwide. Additionally, Roger provides oversight to our HR and Recruiting leadership, ensuring the retention, acquisition and development of the industry’s best talent. Prior to joining Whitlock, Roger earned his CPA certification and served in finance, operations and managed services leadership roles in the audiovisual industry.

Mark Baker

Chief Financial Officer

As the head of the finance and accounting teams, Mark defines Whitlock’s fiscal strategies and goals, and keeps the company on target for expected growth. Mark has been with Whitlock since 2000 and was named Chief Financial Officer in 2007. He oversees bonding, lending and contractual relationships, enabling Whitlock to procure, deliver and manage global enterprise solutions. With over twenty-five years of experience in financial management, Mark is a CPA and a tenured AV industry veteran. Prior to joining Whitlock, he was a senior manager at Ernst & Young in entrepreneurial services.

Julian Phillips

Executive Vice President

Julian joined the Whitlock executive team in 2010 and drives innovation, strategic marketing and relationship management on a global level for the company.  Julian brings 30 years of leadership experience from the European IT and telecomm markets.  A British national, he was previously the Managing Director of Impact in the UK. Along with Doug Hall, he was a founder of the Global Presence Alliance, the leading international consortium of AV and collaboration solution providers, and continues to serve on its board. Previously, Julian held senior level positions with Trinity Mirror, Orange and Dell. He is a board member of InfoComm International, and is a frequent speaker and featured writer on innovation, technology and the workplace of the future.

Whitlock John Steinhauer

John Steinhauer

Executive Vice President

John leads Whitlock’s sales and business growth initiatives worldwide, enabling solutions and support to thousands of enterprise customers across the globe. A seasoned veteran with 30 years of experience in video collaboration and broadcast, John is responsible for setting strategy, inspiring regional leaders and leading our teams in executing our sales strategy across more than 20 offices nationwide. John oversees Whitlock’s company-wide sales organization and keeps his pulse on the health of the business. He is also the company’s executive sponsor for the Global Presence Alliance, delivering consistent customer experiences worldwide. John’s expertise includes driving complex enterprise solution sales and services for the commercial and federal sectors. Past positions include executive leadership with Sony, Avid and LifeSize.

John Bailey

Vice President, Technology

John has been an integral driving force for new technology adoption at Whitlock since 1999. He has more than twenty-five years of experience in AV, collaboration and modern workplace strategies with a focus on best practices, enterprise standards and innovation for national and international enterprises. John is primarily responsible for Whitlock’s technology portfolio and related strategic partnerships. In  addition he serves as the President of the Board for the Global Presence Alliance, and supports international standards development for the GPA and for the industry via Avixa/InfoComm. John is credited with co-authoring several ANSI and AVIXA published standards, and formerly served as a senior designer and director at Whitlock.

Chris Jamison

Vice President, Information Technology

Chris has more than 20 years of experience in planning, design and implementation of information technology solutions. As the Vice President of Information Technology, Chris oversees the company’s Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, Enterprise Resource Planning Solutions and Systems Support for Whitlock. This includes the management of the internal core business architecture to ensure all resources are available and running optimally 24×7. He was formerly an IT leader with Alterra Capital, United America Insurance and Penn-America Group.

Ewan Smith

National Vice President

Ewan Smith is a successful sales and operational leader who has driven impactful growth for Whitlock. He has served as a Regional Director, Regional Vice President and now National Vice President for the company, responsible for sales growth, customer satisfaction and profitability for Whitlock’s offices nationwide. Serving as a liaison between sales and services, Ewan is charged with driving best practices for customer and employee experiences for Whitlock’s 23 offices and 900 employees across the U.S. He teams with other line of business leaders to support customer advocacy and culture building for employees and partners. Before Whitlock, Ewan served in sales leadership for Pitney Bowes.

Regional Vice President, West

John Bagnell leads Whitlock sales and operations from Chicago to the West Coast, including fast-growing markets in Illinois, California, Texas and Washington state. He has served as a regional director and now Regional Vice President for the company, responsible for sales growth, customer satisfaction and profitability for Whitlock’s western US teams. With more than 17 years of experience in unified communications, telecommunications and IT, John’s expertise encompasses valuable solutions sales and relationship management for large enterprises, including high tech, legal and energy vertical customers. Before Whitlock, John delivered great results in sales leadership roles for AT&T, XO Communications, Cogent and Arkadin/Conference Plus.

Bryan Chenault

Director of Human Resources

Bryan leads Whitlock’s human resources team and employee experience initiatives and is a driving force behind the company’s culture. His primary focus is on employee retention to keep our best doing their best for each customer we serve. Bryan also serves as an advisor to the executive and senior leadership team sharing internal trends and external best practices for talent management. He has been with Whitlock since 2014.

Steve Mitchell

National Director of Enterprise Sales & Operations

Steve joined Whitlock in 2002 as an account executive and now drives the company’s enterprise account programs. He serves as one of Whitlock’s top subject matter experts for AV/IT implementations, best practices and maximizing the return on these investments. Steve works closely with both the sales and operations leaders to continue to improve the customer experience, including Whitlock’s focus on serving large, multinational organizations with simplicity and standards.

Chance Turner

Director of

Chance leads Whitlock’s extensive recruiting efforts nationwide. He works closely with marketing and HR to attract new employees and evangelize the Whitlock culture. Chance and his team are an integral part of Whitlock’s ability to continue to scale and provide quality service to customers. A dynamic networker, Chance has refined Whitlock’s professional search and social media programs. He has been with the company since 2012.

Rich Williams

Director of
Managed Services Solutions

Rich oversees the operational service delivery portfolio for Whitlock, which provides preventative maintenance, onsite and remote support, and technology adoption services. With an extensive career spanning more than 30 years, Rich has expertise in delivering audiovisual, videoconferencing and unified collaboration for enterprises and government entities. Rich is ITIL certified, and has been an integral part of Whitlock’s growth and adoption of best practices for the Global Presence Alliance.
